The Falcon and the Winter Soldier episode 5 ending and post-credit scene explained: [SPOILER] is coming to the MCU
The Falcon and the Winter Soldier’s penultimate episode left fans in shock, but what does it mean for the show with the finale on the horizon?
The Falcon and the Winter Soldier has been another major success for Disney Plus. The streaming service’s second original Marvel Studios series has been a real treat for Marvel Cinematic Universe fans, providing them with a thriller not unlike the critically-acclaimed Captain America: The Winter Soldier.
A different type of adventure than the universally-acclaimed WandaVision but one that is every bit as entertaining, the show has reintroduced us to the modern day MCU in a world still recovering from the damage that Thanos did. And the latest episode was perhaps the most compelling hour of the series yet. But what happened in it?
What happened in The Falcon and the Winter Soldier episode 5?
The fifth episode of The Falcon and the Winter Soldier, “Truth” largely dealt with the fallout of John Walker’s actions in the previous one. As he appeared before government officials, he was stripped of his title as Captain America as well as any benefits that his life of service would have guaranteed.
Unable to believe the injustice that he felt he was facing, he exited swiftly before meeting with a familiar Marvel Comics character. He then visited Lemar Hoskins’ parents and apologized to the Hoskins family for their loss.
While Sam and Bucky prepared to fight Karli and the Flag-Smashers, however, Walker was seen making his very own Captain America shield, insinuating that we haven’t seen the last of him.
What does the ending of The Falcon and the Winter Soldier episode 5 mean?
The ending of The Falcon and the Winter Soldier Episode 5 saw Sam Wilson open the case that Bucky left for him. This case, of course, contains his very own Captain America suit that was made for him in Wakanda.
Sam will look to be a new kind of Captain America as he steps up to carry on the legacy of Steve Rogers and find a way to make that shield once again a symbol of hope. And it seems that his first mission will see him taking on the Flag-Smashers – a mission that Bucky Barnes will no doubt join him on.
However, he may not be the only one to make his presence felt on the GRC board meeting.
What does the post-credit scene of The Falcon and the Winter Soldier mean?
After the first round of credits, we catch a glimpse of John Walker constructing his very own Captain America shield. It seems that, in spite of everything that went down in the episode, he has no intention of backing down in his fight. And that could spell disaster for everyone as the spiralling former Captain America is driven by vengeance – something that Super Soldier Serum in his veins is making that much worse.
It’s clear that the mid-credit scene is the confirmation that we were all waiting for and that, yes, Walker is set to become U.S. Agent, leaving the government and Captain America behind so that he can exact revenge on those he deems guilty.
Will US Agent debut in next week’s finale? We’ll have to wait and see.
The Falcon and the Winter Soldier adds its season 1 finale on Disney+ next Friday from 12:00 a.m. PT and 3:00 a.m. ET.
