Marvel adds a bit of royalty to the upcoming Secret Invasion with this major casting

Marvel seems to be pulling in all of its big guns when it comes to its upcoming Secret Invasion series.
In an exclusive from Variety, it has been revealed that Emilia Clarke is in final negotiations to star in Marvel’s upcoming Disney+ series, Secret Invasion.
This comes just one day after it was announced that Oscar winner Olivia Colman was also in final negotiations to star in the series. If negotiations are finalized, Clarke will join the aforementioned Colman, Samuel L. Jackson, Ben Mendelson, and Kingsley Ben-Adir in the series.
Clarke is most famous for her role as Daenerys Targaryen in the worldwide hit Game of Thrones, which she was nominated for four Emmy awards. She also took on the role of Sarah Connor in Terminator: Genisys and has worked with Disney before on Solo: A Star Wars Story, where she starred as Q’ira.
Who is Emilia Clarke playing in Marvel’s Secret Invasion?
As of now, like Colman and Ben-Adir, Clarke’s role in the series is undisclosed, but given her previous acting credits, its possible that she may be stepping into the shoes of royalty once again.

In the comics, much of the plot of Secret Invasion revolves around Queen Veranke, the ruler of the Skrulls. This is obviously speculation at this point, but its possible that given Clarke’s tenure as a morally conflicted ruler in Game of Thrones, she was cast to bring the same type of nuance to a character who is much less likable than Daenerys.
However, given that not even a character description has been provided for either Clarke or Colman, it’s completely up in the air as to who either are playing in the series.
Secret Invasion is planning on shooting later this year in the UK and Europe. As of now, there is no release window for the series, but if production goes smoothly and it does shoot in the back-half of 2021, it’s probable that the series will release in 2022.
