We’ve all been asking the question, but has Disney just confirmed that The Falcon and the Winter Soldier season 2?

The Falcon and the Winter Soldier has gripped Marvel Cinematic Universe fans for the past six weeks, with each episode bringing us that much closer to seeing Sam Wilson carry on Steve Rogers’ legacy and craft his own as the new Captain America.

During that time, fans have wondered if we’ll see more of the Anthony Mackie and Sebastian Stan-led series or if it will go the WandaVision route and simply be a one-and-done miniseries. However, Disney may have revealed the answer already.

As TV networks are gradually submitting their contenders for this year’s Emmy awards, Marvel Studios are finding themselves hopefuls for their first-ever Emmy nomination. When the studio first announced the new slate of Disney+ shows, they were originally advertised as limited series. However, things seem to be changing.

A Drama Series Emmy submission proof of The Falcon and The Winter Soldier season 2?

As revealed by IndieWire, Disney submitted both of their MCU Disney+ shows for Emmy nominations. Yes, that means both The Falcon and the Winter Soldier, and Wandavision have been submitted. However, only one was submitted as a limited series: WandaVisionThe Falcon and the Winter Soldier, on the other hand, will be submitted as a Drama Series at the 2021 Emmys. Why the not-so-sudden change?

While WandaVision left us with so many questions, the plan is to have those questions answered in Doctor Strange in the Multiverse of Madness. So we know we’ll see our beloved Scarlet Witch again. However, with The Falcon and the Winter Soldier, Bucky and Sam don’t have a movie lined up. And with Sam Wilson (Anthony Mackie) likely becoming Captain America in tomorrow’s finale, it’s hard to believe Marvel would end the story right there.

Season 2 could explore their relationship and dynamic further

While they deny it time and time again they are more co-workers rather than partners, there is so much to explore with both characters and their dynamic. They need each other more than they realize, whether its in battle or just to have the heart-to-heart that most superheroes need to have in order to maintain their sanity.

Whether they like it or not, these two make a great team – bickering aside. The dialogue has Marvel’s signature quick-wit side commentary and there’s never an awkward moment between the two. Well, not one that we don’t love to see!

What could a potential Season 2 could offer?

Looking forward in the MCU, Sam picking up the shield is important on so many levels. From the legacy behind it, and the importance of a Black man carrying that shield. Even after Bucky and Sam talked about in the previous episode, the topic of Sam carrying the shield deserves so much more than a 45-minute episode of content.

If Marvel Studios won’t give Sam Wilson his own Captain America trilogy, we should have a chance to experience the legacy he will leave as Captain America in another season of The Falcon and the Winter Soldier.

You can catch the series (or season) finale of The Falcon and the Winter Soldier, tonight on Disney+ at 12AM PST / 3AM EST.
