Will Anthony Mackie be returning for Captain America and the Winter Soldier after the season finale of The Falcon and the Winter Soldier? What’s next for Sam Wilson in the MCU?

The Falcon and the Winter Soldier has come to an end. The second Marvel Cinematic Universe-set Disney Plus series of the year, the six-part drama series placed some long overdue spotlight on Steve Rogers’ two right-hand men. And it’s safe to say that they absolutely shone brighter than before in the expanded roles.

Bucky Barnes overcame a lot of his own personal demons as he sought to exorcise the Winter Soldier within. And exorcise it he did as he proved that the hero that inspired Steve all those years ago is very much alive and well.

Speaking of heroes, we can’t talk about The Falcon and the Winter Soldier without discussing the man whose story it was truly telling: Sam Wilson. Portrayed by Anthony Mackie since his first apperance in Captain America: The Winter Soldier, Sam has been a major part of the MCU ever since.

With The Falcon and the Winter Soldier now finished its first season run, have we seen the last of the character? Will Anthony Mackie return now that Sam has ascended to the heights the MCU had been teasing for years?

Will Anthony Mackie’s Captain America return in The Falcon and the Winter Soldier season 2?

It’s unknown where or when Anthony Mackie will return to the MCU, but you can rest assured that we have not seen the last of him. For starters, The Falcon and the Winter Soldier ended on a note that makes it quite easy to bring it back for a second season – especially since the title card at the end of the finale read Captain America and the Winter Soldier.

Undoubtedly Captain America and the Winter Soldier (or The Falcon and the Winter Soldier season 2 if we’re being technical) would see Anthony Mackie and Sebastian Stan return to their iconic roles as Sam and Bucky would theoretically reunite to take down the Power Broker.

Will Anthony Mackie star in his own Captain America movie in the MCU?

Now that Anthony Mackie has taken Sam Wilson to the next level as Cap, fans are undoubtedly curious as to whether or not he will be starring in his very own Captain America movie like his predecessor Chris Evans.

The truth is that the immediate future of Anthony Mackie and Sebastian Stan’s characters remain unclear, but if a second season of Captain America and the Winter Soldier doesn’t arrive, you would think that both would appear in a new Captain America movie – be it on the big screen or a Disney Plus original.

Either way, this is just the beginning for Sam Wilson as Captain America so it goes without saying that we must see Anthony Mackie return to the role in the future.
