Captain America 4 confirmed: Marvel’s Star-Spangled hero returns for new MCU movie
The Falcon and the Winter Soldier just finished but it seems that Captain America will be heading back to the big screen in the franchise’s fourth movie.
The legacy of Captain America played a huge part in The Falcon and the Winter Soldier. The six-part Disney Plus series was the second installment in the fourth phase of the Marvel Cinematic Universe and its conclusion has left fans wondering what comes next. Well, now it seems we have the answer.
As revealed by The Hollywood Reporter, a fourth Captain America movie is in the works at Marvel Studios. The Falcon and the Winter Soldier‘s showrunner Malcolm Spellman will write the script alongside Dalan Musson – who was a staff writer on the series. Spoilers for The Falcon and the Winter Soldier ahead.
Will Anthony Mackie return as Sam Wilson in Captain America 4?
It’s not yet known if Anthony Mackie will reprise his role as Sam Wilson in Captain America 4 as no castings have been announced. However, it’s highly likely that he will.
Friday’s finale of The Falcon and the Winter Soldier (or Captain America and the Winter Soldier) saw Sam officially take up Steve Rogers’ shield as he became the new Captain America, following in the footsteps of his long-time friend Steve Rogers while also vowing to to make history by being a new version of the character.
Will Chris Evans return as Steve Rogers in Captain America 4?
Chris Evans portrayed the Star-Spangled Man with a Plan for almost a decade, appearing in the first three Captain America movies (The First Avenger, The Winter Soldier and Civil War) as well as the four Avengers movies. While it’s highly likely that Evans won’t be reprising his role in a leading capacity, he could always return as the aged Steve that gave the shield to Sam in the first place.
Remember, The Falcon and the Winter Soldier was very secretive about Steve’s actual fate. Maybe that’s because Captain America 4 plans on revealing it.
Whatever happens, it’s no coincidence that this made the headlines on the day of The Falcon and the Winter Soldier‘s finale. And even though nothing is confirmed yet, there is a strong possibility that Sam will get the leading role he deserves as the new Captain America in the upcoming fourth installment in the franchise.
