2. Sharon Carter

Look, seeing Emily VanCamp return as Sharon Carter was nothing short of glorious. Seeing her kick some behind was also pretty amazing and just seeing her get some long overdue screen-time was a major bonus. And yet, it still doesn’t feel like the show did the character the justice she deserved.

The fact that she spent so much time off-screen throughout the series (despite being a series regular) was frustrating but now it makes sense given that we know she’s the Power Broker. And yes, the idea of seeing VanCamp sass her way back into our hearts as a conniving and wronged antagonist looking to avenge the wrongs that were done to her sounds absolutely thrilling. However, it does feel like another hoop to make us jump through because the MCU failed to get her right the first time around.

Sharon Carter is an iconic character in the Marvel Comics but in the MCU she was never given that kind of spotlight. Granted, a lot of that was down to the fact that Peggy Carter was a far more beloved and prominent figure here but that doesn’t mean Sharon couldn’t be too. And clearly the response to Sharon’s return is proof of that. Nonetheless, making her a villain not only risks disrespecting the legendary Carter name, it risks giving this wonderful character a shelf-life because at some point in time she will have to fall. And that just doesn’t feel right when Sharon Carter could be a hero instead.

In spite of that, the thought of seeing more of her in the future is very exciting and VanCamp will undoubtedly nail the material.
