Although Black Widow is one of the original Avengers and has appeared in several Marvel Cinematic Universe films over the last decade, she was never given the chance to star in her own standalone feature during the first phases of the MCU.

Fortunately, Marvel finally set a course to right that wrong with the announcement at 2019’s San Diego Comic-Con that Scarlett Johansson would return to reprise her role in a standalone feature originally slated to arrive in theaters in May 2020. Then came the COVID-19 pandemic.

Like many studios, Marvel was forced to shift its schedule due to the closure of movie theaters across the globe leading to delayed releases for its entire 2020 film slate. Despite Marvel’s hopes to bring the film to fans in fall 2020, the film was eventually delayed until May 2021… but then Marvel made the call to push the film back once again.

While Black Widow is scheduled to drop on Disney Plus in 2021, the Scarlett Johansson-led film will not be coming in May 2021. The good news, though, is that fans won’t have to wait too much longer for the film’s arrival.

When is Black Widow coming to Disney Plus

As puzzling as Marvel’s decision to bump Black Widow from its May release date, Natasha Romanoff will finally suit back up this summer with the film now slated to release on Friday, July 9.

Although certain titles have come to Disney Plus on a delayed timeline, Marvel has announced that Black Widow will drop on Disney Plus the same day the film will open in theaters. Because of this, fans can look forward to watching the film on July 9 as part of the service’s Premium tier access.
