The season finale of The Falcon and The Winter Soldier may have just set up a popular team from the comics.

The Falcon and The Winter Soldier was a massive hit series for both Marvel and Disney+, as the six episode series has been praised by both fans and critics. While it was a fun ride, the series also provided some set up for the future of the Marvel Cinematic Universe, with the most recent announcement of a fourth Captain America film due to be released in the future.

However, one scene in the season finale may have set the stage for a new team to rival the Avengers, which would consist of some questionable characters. This scene features John Walker, his wife and Contessa Valentina Allegra de Fontaine (Madame Hydra). Val and Walker’s wife comment on the bombing of a police vehicle filled with multiple Flag Smashers Super Soldiers, with Val indicating that Zemo was responsible and almost applauding him for it.

Are the Thunderbolts coming to the MCU after The Falcon and the Winter Soldier?

Valentina’s comment had some fans speculating that, while she may just be teasing Walker’s wife about her involvement, Val did indeed have something to do with Zemo’s bombing of the Flag Smashers, leading to speculation of a future Thunderbolts team-up.

The speculation of the Thunderbolts appearing is even more prominent when Walker reveals his new costume, featuring black, red and white colouring, with Val dubbing him as the US Agent, giving his mantle from the comics and perhaps setting up the group. US Agent could be set up to play a Rick Flagg type role as the leader of the Thunderbolts.

A team consisting of the MCU villains has been teased for years, with The Falcon and The Winter Soldier finally giving the first solid indication that the team is appearing in the MCU. Marvel could also add some other villains from past projects, such as Abomination (who is appearing in She-Hulk) or Ghost.

While it is unclear when and where the Thunderbolts will appear in the Marvel Cinematic Universe, all signs indicate that the team of super villains making their presence felt very soon.
