With the final season of Black Lightning coming to a close, you’d expect things to get more difficult for the Pierce family.
The eighth episode proved how true this is. The entire episode showed how powerful Tobias is. This doesn’t refer to his superpowers. His reach as a pillar of the community and his ability to ruin Jefferson’s life is what’s making him a dominant villain.

Tobias made Jefferson look like he was embezzling money from Garfield High School – a move that destroyed Jefferson emotionally because he would never do something like this. To make things worse, some of the students believe that he did it. Tobias’ move is ruining Jefferson’s standing in the community. It’s a deplorable move, but a smart one. Jefferson and Lynn thought they were one step ahead of Tobias but they came to find out they aren’t even close.
The previous episode of the Arrowverse show featured Ishmael attempting to kill Blackbird and Grace. If Grace hadn’t turned into a cheetah, they’d both be dead. This trick won’t work again. Ishmael made it a point to note that Grace can shape-shift. However, Blackbird’s no slouch. Anissa always knows to adapt after a loss. The next time they confront each other, this writer fully expects the outcome to be different.
Black Lightning and the entire Pierce family has been taking losses all season. At some point they’re going to need a win. Unfortunately, it won’t happen in episode 9. Lynn hasn’t told Jefferson that Jennifer’s last test came up off – another secret that will no doubt put a wedge between them. Plus, how will Jennifer react? We’ll have to wait and see.
