Best DC movies and shows on HBO Max: Justice League: Throne of Atlantis
There are some pretty lousy DC films, but it’s safe to assume that everyone can agree on the 2018 James Wan-directed film Aquaman starring Jason Momoa. Like Shazam!, Man of Steel, and Wonder Woman, the Atlantean’s first live-action solo endeavor stands tall as one of the DCEU’s finest, and if fans are looking for more of the same great Arthur Curry fun, they should absolutely not sleep on Justice League: Throne of Atlantis.
Justice League: Throne of Atlantis is a sequel to Justice League: War and solidified the cartoon flicks of DC Comics to be revered as greater than its biggest rival, Marvel. Prominent Variety critics Brian Lowry claimed that the DC Universe Animated Original Movies “remain an area where DC consistently outclasses Marvel” and “entries like Throne of Atlantis reinforce a sense that in the game of animation, anyway, they’re leading the wave, not behind it.”
The film, which is somewhat based on the Throne of Atlantis story arc from The New 52 by Geoff Johns, starts with Metropolis being invaded by Atlantean’s who blame the surface dwellers for the death of their king. Arthur Curry learns his origins and becomes the Aquaman joining the Justice League to stop his half-brother Ocean Master from taking over the home of Superman.
With an all-star cast and an exceptional story, Justice League: Throne of Atlantis is a must-see for DECU fans wanting more Aquaman before the sequel swims to shore.
