Best DC movies and shows on HBO Max: Reign of the Supermen

Reign of Supermen could have easily been the third Man of Steel film in the DCEU airing after the first Justice League film, similar to Iron Man’s progression in the much more successful and, above all else, patient Marvel Cinematic Universe. But things did not work out that way, and thus no set-up for other heroes besides Kal-El that rock an “S” on their chest, leading to a fantastic feature.

The follow-up to the Death of Superman sees a world in need of a caped hero. So several enhanced individuals step up to the plate but apparently, there is only room for one super-powered man in Metropolis. In the lineup to take Superman’s place are Superboy, Cyborg Superman, Steel, and The Eradicator.

But as these five godlike beings continue to bicker, squabble, and rack up very high amounts of property damages, a sinister force works in the shadows from lightyears away, preparing for an invasion. Soon the Superman candidates must unite to stop a dangerously powerful force that could wipe out Earth.

The movie is based on the comic book story arc with the same name that went down during The Death of Superman event. Reign of the Supermen would have been a great DCEU film, and now it may never happen, but at least there is a stellar animated version available on HBO Max.
