Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 3 release date, cast, trailer, synopsis and more
By Cody Schultz
It’s been four years since the Guardians of the Galaxy last assembled in Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 2 and, although we saw the heroes from the franchise join forces with their fellow Avengers in Avengers: Infinity War and Endgame, anticipation is at an all-time high for the third film in the franchise, Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 3.
The third film in the wildly successful franchise was first announced back in April 2017; however, after Disney had a fallout with director James Gunn in summer 2018, the future of the franchise seemed unclear. After months of uncertainty, Disney and Marvel Studios ultimately brought Gunn back into the mix in early 2019 and it was soon confirmed work was back on track for the previously confirmed film.
Because this is Marvel, little is known about the upcoming Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 3 but there are some details that have been confirmed including when exactly the film will open in theaters as well as the identities of some of the cast members set to return!
Below, we shared what you need to know about the Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 3 release date, cast, and more.
Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 3 release date
During its portion of the 2020 Disney Investor Day press conference, Marvel Studios confirmed Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 3 would be coming in 2023. While the studio originaly kept fans in the dark as to when exactly the film would release, Marvel Studios later confirmed the film’s release date to be May 5, 2023 — putting it on course to be one of the biggest spring releases for 2023!
Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 3 cast
While Marvel has yet to officially confirm the cast list for Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 3 it is expected that most of the franchise’s key players will be returning including Chris Pratt as Star-Lord, Dave Bautista as Drax, Karen Gillan as Nebula, Pom Klementieff as MantisVin Diesel as the voice of Groot, and Bradley Cooper as the voice of Rocket Raccoon. It’s also expected that the film will feature the return of Zoe Saldana as Gamora, though nothing has been confirmed.
One cast member we know won’t be returning is Michael Rooker, as James Gunn has confirmed Yondu is not a part of the upcoming third film.
Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 3 director
While it was looking as though Marvel might have to bring in a new director to helm its Guardians of the Galaxy franchise after Marvel Studios parted ways with James Gunn, the two parties have since mended fences. As a result, James Gunn will return to direct the upcoming third film in the Guardians of the Galaxy franchise.
Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 3 trailer
At this time, Marvel has not yet released a trailer for Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 3. Given the film is not scheduled to release until May 2023, we’re not expecting our first look at the film to drop until closer to 2022.
Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 3 synopsis
Like most Marvel projects, Marvel Studios is keeping the Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 3 synopsis a secret at the moment with no real clues about the film’s focal story having been released just yet. Given there are a handful of Marvel films and shows scheduled to drop before the next Guardians of the Galaxy film, it’s likely Marvel is simply unable to release the synopsis for the film due to potential spoilers.
