Kate Kane is back in Batwoman season 2 but what could happen with the character next?

Kate Kane returned to Batwoman this week with a new face that has been covered with a wooden mask. It was announced earlier this year that Krypton star Wallis Day had replaced original actress Ruby Rose as the original Scarlet Knight of Gotham. What’s more, is that is has now been revealed that the character has been brainwashed into believing she is Circe Sionis, the late daughter of Black Mask.

With Kate back on the Arrowverse scene, there is a number of ways the story could play out for Ryan and the Bat Team. But which route will it take and how is this going to affect Alice?

Let’s take a look at a few possible theories…

Will Ryan step down as Batwoman?

Let’s start with the theory that was once the most obvious one and is now the most unlikely.

At the beginning of the season, Luke was so desperate to get his friend back that he didn’t stop to consider how Mary might feel about the possibility of her step-sister never returning to the cape and cowl. This is why she was so drawn to the idea of Ryan becoming the new Batwoman.

The Bat Team were then unfortunately crushed when Julia reported that her team found body parts belonging to Kate. However, little does the Bat Team realize that Kane had actually been captured by Black Mask and held captive.

While the Bat Team, Jacob, and Alice don’t know that Kate is still alive, it could end up very messy when Kane returns and is freed of Black Mask’s control.

It might mean that Ryan steps down as Batwoman to allow her predecessor to return. However, it has been confirmed that Ryan Wilder will be remaining the show’s primary Batwoman. With that in mind, we might get the next option…

Could Kate and Ryan join forces as two Batwomen?

With the main villain being Black Mask, it might be a bit much for just Ryan and the team to handle. Even with Alice potentially in their corner at some point, Black Mask and the False Face gang have proven to be a formidable force.

This might mean that the current Scarlet Knight and the original version team-up. After all, Roman had Kate under his thumb and she’s going to want payback. Could Kate suit up to exact revenge?

Ryan may be a little uneasy with the idea of teaming up with the former Batwoman at first, but she may grow like to the idea after the pair work together. After all, two Batwomen would make an incredible team.

Will Kate forgive her father?

We know from Season 1 that Kate and her father were not on the best terms. After all, he started a war with Batwoman because he wasn’t aware that his daughter was the Scarlet Knight. Now that he does know, he was – until lately – somewhat more okay with the idea of vigilantes as Ryan (as Batwoman) saved his life. Though, he still leans towards a negative stance on their role in Gotham.

If Kate is not going to be in the main cast again (that remains unknown at this point), then it would be good to close off any story threads that haven’t been resolved. One those is the relationship with her father. It would need to be resolved which would, in turn, also enable Mary to forgive their dad too.

However, there would probably still be some animosity between Kate and Jacob, it wouldn’t be in the same capacity that it has been throughout the whole first season.

What else is next for Kate Kane in Batwoman season 2?

Batwoman is still a relevantly new show and there are a ton of ways they could incorporate Kate back into it. Given that Ryan is now the lead character, it’s unlikely that Kate will be primary character that she once was, but she could still be be a supporting ally for the Bat Team.

She could even become a little like what Alfred was to Batman, providing Ryan with advice on how to handle their rogues gallery while also using her military training to kick behinds when necessary.
