Magneto’s actions may cause a wedge between the X-Men, the Quiet Council, and all of Krakoa in Marvel Comics.

There are three rules in Krakoa: Respect the sacred land of Krakoa, make more mutants, and kill no man.

The latter of those three things got Sabretooth in trouble – he thought the old X-Men rules would apply but he found out how wrong that was. Instead of the slap on he normally gets, Sabretooth was exiled alone into Krakoa. Before he was exiled, Sabretooth was put in front of the Quiet Council of Krakoa. It was voted that an example had to be sent. Considering who he was and his track record, it isn’t shocking that he was made an example of.

However, we could be looking at another mutant being put in front of the Quiet Council as Marvel.com teased the trial of Magneto for August of this year.

Why is Magneto on trail in Marvel’s new installment?

The Marvel release featured artwork by John Romita Jr. and a message that revealed: “The Trial That Threatens to Divide Mutantkind. Stay tuned next week for more information about the Trial of Magneto, coming in August!”

While that isn’t exactly a lot to go on, we can speculate what’s going to happen. The obvious choice would be that Magneto killed some people and now must face punishment because of it. If this is what happens then we should have seen this coming.

Krakoa has done a great job doing things that humans wouldn’t. Among those things are not being prejudiced, accepting people for who they are, and helping each other when needed. It’s been a time of happiness that mutants have never experienced before. Of course, if you’ve been reading X-Men titles, you know that happiness doesn’t exactly last.

Is a civil war coming in Krakoa?

We could be looking at a civil war within Krakoa – something that is a very human thing. Like the Marvel Superhero Civil War, we could see heroes taking sides, others fighting among each other, and some staying out of it altogether. And even those who choose to stay out of it won’t be exempt from criticism or persecution because they will undoubtedly be called cowards by some or others will constantly try and recruit them.

This is all just speculation right now, but if the trial of Magneto leads to any dissension, this may be the first domino that falls in the collapse of Krakoa. Something that will affect all of the X-Men now and in the future.
