Supergirl season 6 will be taking a long break from our screens, but when can we expect the Girl of Steel to soar back onto them?

Supergirl unexpectedly returned to The CW in March of this year after little to no word on its premiere date before that. The reason for that unexpected return was down to the fact that it was needed to hold the Tuesday night timeslot when its own spin-off, newcomer Superman and Lois, had to take a sudden production hiatus.

As a result, the Girl of Steel’s final adventure kicked off with the remnants of the previous season as the Super Friends battled Lex Luthor in the Fortress of Solitude. That battle ultimately resulted in Kara finding herself in the Phantom Zone and Lex bafflingly finding himself acquitted of the real charges against him. That arc began to wrap up in this week’s midseason finale.

Unfortunately, that means Supergirl will now be taking an extended break from our TV screens. With the midseason hiatus upon us, it will be some time before Kara and friends return to The CW.

When does Supergirl season 6 return?

Supergirl season 6 returns to The CW on Tuesday, August 24, at 9:00 p.m. ET. The next episode will be season 6, episode 8, titled “Welcome Back, Kara!” and it will serve as the show’s midseason premiere.

The title of the episode speaks for itself. With Kara having been rescued from the Phantom Zone by her team in the midseason finale, this completed the seven-episode arc of the season’s first arc. With the Girl of Steel now back in National City, it’s time for a new adventure moving forward.

While the show is off the air, it will be replaced by the timeslot’s original holder, Superman & Lois, as that show returns with new episodes of its debut season. It’s only fitting that the two Kryptonian cousins have been stepping in for each other, so make sure you have fun watching that show (as well as fellow Arrowverse shows The Flash and Stargirl – which will both occupy the 8:00 p.m. ET timeslot at different times throughout the next couple of months).

Fear not, Supergirl will return this Summer.
