Will Tom Hardy ever play Wolverine in the Marvel Cinematic Universe?

Fans have long hoped to see Tom Hardy take on the role of Wolverine in the Marvel Cinematic Universe, but what are the odds it could actually happen?

When it comes to the Marvel Cinematic Universe, there is a lot to look forward to in the years ahead. Marvel has announced several incredible films and Disney Plus series set to feature the returns of beloved characters as well as the introductions of several new faces sure to play a critical role in the next chapter of the MCU.

Among the new faces anticipated to be making the way to the MCU in the near future are the X-Men, who finally came back to Marvel Studios following Disney’s acquisition of 20th Century Fox. Although Marvel has yet to announce any official projects featuring the core characters from the franchise, it’s only a matter of time before the studio announces its first X-Men project.

While Marvel has not yet confirmed any projects, rumor has it a Wolverine anthology series could be in development at Disney Plus as a way to focus on the iconic X-Men hero via a platform that would allow the studio to explore various iconic comic book storylines.

As the project has not yet been confirmed and is still nothing more than a rumor, no casting decisions have been made but there is one actor whose name continues to come up in conversation amongst fans: Tom Hardy.

Will Tom Hardy join the Marvel Cinematic Universe as Wolverine?

For years, fans have been dream casting Tom Hardy in the role of Wolverine and hoping he could one day join the MCU when the X-Men eventually made their debut in the franchise.

Thanks to incredible artists, we’ve had the chance to see what Hardy could look like as Wolverine and fans of the genre know he has what it takes to steal the show in a superhero project thanks to his work in films such as Venom and The Dark Knight Rises but will he actually join the MCU as Wolverine?

Because Marvel has not officially announced any X-Men projects, the studio has not revealed any casting decisions meaning at the moment Tom Hardy joining the MCU as Wolverine is nothing more than a rumor and it’s likely to only ever remain as such.

As much as we’d love to see Hardy suit up as Wolverine, he’s currently involved in Sony’s Venom franchise which has been created in association with Marvel. As Sony continues to build its Spider-Verse franchise, we imagine Hardy will continue to play a key role and, because of this, it is unlikely he’d join the MCU in the role of Wolverine.
