Amazon Prime’s Invincible made a lot of changes from the comic book to make the series work. Here’s some of them and why they worked.

This writer has mentioned on many occasions that there were quite a lot of changes made in Amazon Prime’s Invincible as the TV series didn’t adapt everything directly from from the comic book. Normally, these changes would infuriate comic fans. We’ve seen ridiculous changes to the source material made in other properties over the years like Deadpool not having a mouth, shooting optic blasts, and having swords coming out of his hands. In this case, however, the changes have all been good.

Some of the alterations in Invincible have been small. For example, instead of Science Dog in the comic book, it’s Séance Dog – something that’s not that serious, but still noticeable for the fans. There are some important changes made too. In the Invincible comics, William was gay, but kept his sexuality hidden. While this did eventually lead to a coming out arc, there were a couple of jokes made along the way that just aren’t acceptable. The show counteracts that by taking a different approach as William is openly gay right from the beginning of the show.

There were other changes that helped make the show work on the platform. Here are the ones that stuck out the most.

The Mauler Twins

When the Mauler Twins accepted the offer from Robot, they asked for a device to help them bring back and control Immortal. In the comic book, however, they didn’t need Robot as they brought Immortal back long before they started working with him. This was a good change because it illustrates just how smart the Mauler Twins are.

They also changed the fight between Robot and the Mauler Twins because the battle in the show wasn’t one-sided (unlike the one in the comics).

To give something, guess something had to be taken away.
