Loki is almost upon us and there are a number of things we’d like to see happen in the upcoming Disney Plus series.
It’s been almost two years since we last saw the God of Trickery but Loki is set to return in his upcoming Disney Plus series. And with his new air date of June 9, Loki will be joining our screens a little earlier than we expected.
This means that all of our lingering questions are that much closer to being answered. With that in mind, I’ve complied a list of the biggest questions we have for Loki.
What happened after Avengers: Endgame?
I’m pretty sure we all want to know what happened to Loki after Avengers: Endgame. What we do know is that Thanos snapped 2019 Loki’s neck in that haunting opening scene, but 2012 Loki gained possession of the Tesseract and disappeared from the Avengers’ grasp.
A vengeful trickster is loose in the timeline and I’m pretty sure we’re all a little curious as to where (or when) he went to.
Was that really a D.B. Cooper reference?
Back in December 2020, Marvel released a captivating first look at Loki. During one scene in that early trailer, Loki donned what looked like a very notable outfit that most crime nerds (me included) raised eyebrows at. Is Loki pretending to be the infamous DB Cooper who hijacked a plane in the ’70s, robbing the passengers before jumping out of it while it was in mid-air? The trailer did show Hiddleston as Loki, in the ’60s style glasses, wearing a suit as he took something from a stewardess and then jumped out of the plane.
I wouldn’t quite put this theory past our God of Mischief because, come on this is totally something he’d do. With the Tesseract, he could simply go back in time right before D.B. Cooper got on the plane, and hijack that very flight between Portland and Seattle. Imagine the look on the real D.B. Cooper’s face if he beat him to it. The odds, right?
Does Loki mess with US History?
In the teaser trailer we see Trickster wearing an old-fashioned U.S. election stylized button that reads “LOKI” with a flash of his up-to-no-good smile. Knowing what 2012 Loki knows about human history, he could easily go back and insert himself in past elections. I mean, he does have a desire to rule over people… I wonder which election he will wiggle himself into?
What is Loki’s role in the rest of Phase 4?
Again, it’s important that we remember that this is the 2012 Loki, fresh from the Battle of New York, and not the same version we have gotten to know over the past decade – because, let’s face it, unlike 2019 Loki, the 2012 one lived for chaos. No, he thrived on it.
This Loki is there to raise stress levels and cause all types of havoc. Now, while he himself may not be the driving factor of the Phase 4 chaos, he will surely bring some mischief with him. And the actions that take place in his series might even lead to some of the MCU stories that await.
As ScreenRant suggests, he could be the fuel that starts the fire that brings Gorr the God Butcher to Thor: Love and Thunder and Kang the Conqueror to Ant-Man and The Wasp: Quantumania.
Asgard… so what now?
Now we know that Thor: Love and Thunder is filming, does that mean Loki’s famous Godly brother is not going to make a small appearance in the series? I mean, he does seem to beam up to Asgard after jumping out that plane D.B. Cooper style in the first look trailer, so what could this mean? What is his home like now that things have surely changed, but not entirely?
These are just some of the questions we have for the show, but I personally can’t wait to see how they pull off the D.B. Cooper one.
You can catch Loki on Fridays at 12am PST/3am EST on Disney+.
