Caped Crusader: Batman returns to small screen in new HBO Max series

Batman: Caped Crusader, a new animated series has been greenlit by HBO Max and Cartoon Network.

The Caped Crusader has a long and rich history on the small screen. From the legendary 1966 Adam West-starring TV series to the recent Gotham, The Dark Knight is every bit at home on television as he in movie theaters. He’s particularly at home in the animation medium, with the classic Batman: The Animated Series launching the revered DC Animated Universe.

Now, it has been revealed that the World’s Greatest Detective will be back on the small screen in upcoming new animated series Batman: Caped Crusader. The announcement was made just before the WarnerMedia upfronts, setting the stage for a day of announcements.

Batman: Caped Crusader greenlit at HBO Max and Cartoon Network

According to the official press release, HBO Max and Cartoon Network have made a series commitment for the new project, with Bruce Timm, J.J. Abrams and Matt Reeves all serving as executive producers.

Those three names are synonymous with DC Comics. Reeves is the director for the upcoming movie reboot The Batman, Abrams is the producer of both the upcoming HBO Max Justice League Dark series and the Superman reboot while Timm will forever be associated with the groundbreaking Batman: The Animated Series.

What is Batman: Caped Crusader about?

It’s not yet known what Batman: Caped Crusader will be about. However, in a join statement, Reeves, Timm and Abrams revealed that the series would be “thrilling, cinematic and evocative of Batman’s noir roots” and that it will dive “deeper into the psychology of these iconic characters”.

What that means we do not know the full extent of, but it sounds very exciting indeed – and with this creative team behind it, it’s clear that the series is destined for great things.
