Who are the greatest comic book characters of all time?
There are more comic book characters than people may know. Everyone knows the regulars like Batman, Superman, and The Avengers. Those three have evolved to be more than beings in comic books. They’re billion-dollar franchises and pop culture icons.
Adam West, Christopher Reeve, and later on Michael Keaton helped make their characters household names. We also have Tobey Maguire, Christian Bale, and Robert Downey Jr. who continued the momentum on superhero projects. What people forget is while these films and their stars are great, they wouldn’t have them if it wasn’t for comic books in general.
Another thing to take into consideration is that not all comic book characters are created equal. Some of them are amazing and have qualities that make them fan favorites. However, that doesn’t mean they’re among the best. There’s a lot that goes into greatness. Longevity, character development and relevance are only a few things. Even with longevity, that can mean nothing. Some characters are around for a while and do nothing. While some have short runs and become iconic.
Taking all of these things and more into account, this piece will break down the 100 greatest comic book characters of all time. We’re not just talking about Marvel and DC Comics characters either.
