Greatest comic book characters – 70. Laura Kinney (X23, Wolverine)

First comic book appearance: X-Men Evolution: “X23”, NYX No. 3

Laura Kinney came into her own quickly. The death of Logan helped that. She got away from her clone name (X23) and embraced being Laura and eventually Wolverine. There are comic book fans that don’t like her being Wolverine. This writer embraces it. It’s not about replacing Logan. This is a new legacy for Laura.

All of the greats have legacy characters. Spider-Man has Miles Morales, Carol Danvers has Kamala Khan, and now Logan has Laura. The best part is she’s making her own way. There are a lot of similarities between her and Logan, but there are just as many differences. For example, Laura’s threats may be a lot scarier, her heightened senses are better, and she’s become more forgiving of herself.

Greatest comic book characters – 69. Doctor Strange

First comic book appearance: Strange Tales No. 110

The Master of the Mystic Arts and the Sorcerer Supreme are titles that Stephen Strange continues to earn. He’s continued to protect the realm from danger. Some threats are Earth-shattering like Dormammu, Baron Mordo, or Mephisto. Others are smaller and affect our everyday lives.

In Jason Aaron’s Doctor Strange, Strange talks about the beings that exist on our plane. Some are harmless. Others can rip apart our souls and we’ll never see them. Doctor Strange regularly takes them out without us noticing. It’s a thankless job that’s cost him love, taken years off of his life, and once took his ability to eat Earthly food. You don’t want to see what he eats.
