Greatest comic book characters – 48. Hank McCoy

First comic book appearance: X-Men No. 1

Hank McCoy has changed over the years. He’s looked like a human with big hands and feet, a grey then blue beast, cat-like, and later an ape. On top of his physical form, his personality has continued to be altered as altered over time as well.

Hank has gone from the loveable bouncing Beast to making a plethora of questionable moves. He’s not as bad as his Age of Apocalypse counterpart, but he could be getting close. Hank’s become uncaring about how people feel as long as his actions justify the means, which is funny considering he left the X-Men because Cyclops did the same thing. He may be worse now on Krakoa. He may be a horrible person, but he’s an amazing character.

Greatest comic book characters – 47. Emma Frost

First comic book appearance: The Uncanny X-Men No. 129

Emma Frost began as the White Queen of the Hellfire Club. A group of villains that controlled world events from behind the scene. Over time, Emma left the Hellfire Club and became a teacher. Regardless of where she went or what she became, Emma was still an aristocratic woman who knows she’s one of the most powerful telepaths in the world.

Emma is just as good of a hero as she is a villain. As a hero, she’s a phenomenal teacher and leader. When she’s a villain, she’s absolutely devious. One of the last people you want to upset regardless of what side she’s on. Emma is creative with her telepathic punishments. She once told someone that she’d make them obsessed with the works of Leroy Neiman sexually because she was left off a guest list. In her defense, she was left off because she announced that she was mutant.
