100 greatest comic book characters of all-time
By Mark Lynch
Greatest comic book characters – 98. Homelander
First appearance: The Boys No. 1
We’ve seen evil versions of Superman before, but not like this. Homelander does whatever he wants because he can. The problem is he’s easily manipulated. Someone with that kind of power and strength shouldn’t have the mentality of a teenager. The things that he was tricked into doing were both hilarious and sad.
Even when he wasn’t tricked, he was a horrible bully and a worse “hero.” When the final story of best and worst villains is written, Homelander will be among the top. If he had half a brain, he’d be dangerous. Thankfully, all of that made him a great antagonist to be the face of The Boys.
Greatest comic book characters – 97. Gambit
First comic book appearance: Uncanny X-Men Annual No. 14
Remy Labeau is one of everyone’s favorites. His popularity in the 1990’s X-Men animated series is unmatched. He may have been more beloved than Wolverine. In the comics, he was the same way. His popularity in the comics may not have been as big as the cartoon, but he was still loved.
Gambit’s known to be someone that can’t be trusted. It began with him being part of the Mutant Massacre. As time goes on, he continues to do shady things. Among them is constantly helping or being around Mr. Sinister. That’s normally not a good look. In this case, it helps. Readers will always look at him and wonder what he’s going to do next.
