Greatest comic book characters – 34. Barbara Gordon

First comic book appearance: Detective Comics No. 359

When you think of Barbara Gordon, Batgirl is probably the first thing that comes to mind. This writer won’t knock anyone for that. It’s what she’s most known for. However, it’s not where she does her best work. Barbara Gordon does a better job as Oracle.

There’s a misconception that you have to fight to be a great hero. Barbara proves how wrong that is. The way she organizes the team and puts them in the right places is second to none. She knows everyone’s strengths, weaknesses, and how to use them to exploit the villains. And she multitasks like nobody has ever.

Greatest comic book characters – 33. Spawn

First comic book appearance: Spawn No. 1

Spawn may not be one of the big two comic book companies (Marvel and DC Comics). But he’s still one of the most popular characters in comics. He has been for decades. The character can also boast something that others can’t. Spawn has the longest-running creator-owned comic run of all time.

Todd MacFarlane created Spawn and continues to make him a must-read. You can tell the popularity is still there with him being a character on Mortal Kombat 11 and because people still want a Spawn movie. Trust this writer, once he gets a project, Spawn sales and his demand will go back up like it’s back to the 1990s.
