Greatest comic book characters – 26. Sue Storm
First comic book appearance: The Fantastic Four No. 1
Sue Storm used to be just the Invisible Girl. A woman who could turn invisible and not much else. After a long time of that, she became the strongest member of one of comic books’ premier superhero teams. Not just in power. The Fantastic Four dynamic would fall apart without her. Sue’s never-give-up attitude keeps the team together. Her love and kindness makes sure they remain a loving family. There have been times when those two collide.
She once scared the Wizard into passing out by showing him his beat heart in his chest. She’d only do something this extreme when her family is threatened. He’s lucky she didn’t kill him. On another occasion, she put real fear into Wolverine. He snuck into their home and said she didn’t care if he was brainwashed. All she knew is that he was putting her family in danger. That’s why you never mess with the Invisible Woman.
Greatest comic book characters – 25. Mystique
First comic book appearance: Ms. Marvel No. 16 (Cameo), Ms. Marvel No. 18 (full appearance)
There aren’t many characters that can cause the amount of damage Mystique does without physically fighting. No one used their shape-shifting abilities like Raven Darkholme. She can ruin lives, and destroy empires. When she’s done, she’ll laugh all the way home. She’s just an evil mutant. As sinister as she is, she cares for the people she loves.
Mystique is never afraid to do deplorable things to help the people she loves. In Messiah Complex, Mystique was willing to kill a baby to save Rogue. She’s also on the verge of burning down Krakoa if Xavier doesn’t bring her wife Destiny back. Mystique can be the worst, but at least she has the resemblance of a heart.
