Greatest comic book characters – 24. Nick Fury

First comic book appearance: Sgt. Fury and his Howling Commandos No. 1

There isn’t a better spy in the fictional world. James Bond and Michael Weston would have nightmares trying to imagine the horrid things Fury’s endured. It’s because he has one job and that’s to save lives. Sometimes that means doing shameful things to people who he loves and trusts. He won’t apologize for it, because he knows it was the right thing to do. And, usually, he’s right.

Fury has lost family members, close friends, and the love of his life to his job. People don’t trust him as far as they can throw him. Yet, they know, if you need a job done right, Fury is the guy. No matter how many times he’s proven to be an awful human being, he’s always going to be the best.

Greatest comic book characters – 23. Dick Grayson

First comic book appearance: Detective Comics No. 38

Dick Grayson is more than the original sidekick. He’s one of the first to leave their partner’s side and be more than what they were. He’s been his own man for decades. As Nightwing, he’s been Blüdhaven’s protector. He’s helped save Gotham City alongside the rest of the Bat-Family. In fact, he’s actually been Batman.

Unlike his mentor Batman, Dick Grayson knows the benefit of being happy and having a social life. It makes him more likable and easier to work with. He’s also not opposed to working with other people. Honestly, it’s hard to not like him. He has the perfect balance of brains, fighting ability, and courage. He was also a pretty good spy, as well.
