The Flash season 8 will make its presence felt on The CW this fall and it seems that the Arrowverse crossovers will be returning too.

The Flash is currently just over halfway through its seventh season. The veteran Arrowverse series has been entertaining fans in its typical Tuesday night timeslot since it returned back in March and The CW’s newly-released fall schedule confirms that it will do so again at the same time next season.

It’s been a number of months now since The CW confirmed that The Flash would return for an eighth season but little remains known about it – other than the fact that it will tie Arrow as the longest-lasting Arrowverse series. However, the confirmation of the new schedule at The CW’s Upfronts brings with it some new information about the show’s return, which will involve a “five-episode event” that could introduce us to a new type of Arrowverse crossover.

Will there be an Arrowverse crossover in 2021 or 2022 on The Flash season 8?

The CW chairman and CEO Mark Pedowitz revealed to journalists during a press call about the 2021 Fall schedule that the first five episodes of both The Flash season 8 and Riverdale season 6 would be five-episode events. The reason for that is down to the fact that the shows will only be able to air five episodes in the fall because of their current seasons running into the summer.

In the case of The Flash, that five-episode event could entail some huge crossovers. Pedowitz confirmed that those first five episodes “will feature different heroes from the CWverse”, adding:

"“… other superheroes from the CW-verse who will come together in each individual episode… It will not be quite be a crossover but will have a crossover-type feel and the introduction of all these characters.”"

That definitely sounds like an interesting possibility and will undoubtedly be met with excitement from fans since there couldn’t be any crossovers this season due to COVID-19 protocols. The last one we saw was Crisis On Infinite Earths and that essentially left the Arrowverse crossovers’ futures unknown.

Which Arrowverse heroes are appearing in The Flash season 8 crossovers?

It has yet to be revealed which heroes in particular are set to appear in The Flash season 8’s first five episodes, but one of the most likely options is Black Lightning. With Black Lightning having just recently concluded, actor Cress Williams revealed that there had been conversations about his character appearing on The Flash.

Another possible option would be Supergirl. Melissa Benoist and Grant Gustin received acclaim for their multiple Supergirl/Flash crossover appearances and, with Supergirl ending this year, that means we’re not likely to get one final crossover between the pair. However, making it happen at the beginning of The Flash season 8 does seem like a strong possibility.

Other names fans would no doubt love to see on the show would be Stephen Amell’s Green Arrow, Brec Bassinger’s Stargirl, Tyler Hoechlin and Elizabeth Tulloch’s Superman and Lois Lane, Kat McNamara, Katie Cassidy and Juliana Harkavy’s Green Arrow and the Canaries, some of the Legends of Tomorrow and Javicia Leslie’s Batwoman. But for the time being, it all remains speculation.
