10. Nightcrawler and Legion
Comic book: Way of X No. 2
Way of X No. 1 ended with Nightcrawler being attacked by Legion. We found out that Orchid (a group determined to destroy mutants) was using Legion to simulate how to destroy Krakoa. Nightcrawler got help and freed Legion from his torment. However, the only way to do it was to break one of his rules: He had to kill Legion. Thankfully, the resurrection protocols brought him back.
When Legion returns, he becomes very buddy-buddy with Nightcrawler. He tells Nightcrawler that Krakoa needs someone like him – a mutant who wants to keep Krokoa thinking of each other instead of themselves. Legion says he sees something in him that he trusts and that trust leads him to tell Nightcrawler what’s going on: Orchid is bringing back Onslaught – one of the X-Men’s more dangerous enemies.
Why is this important?
Onslaught is the combination of Magneto’s anger and hate with everything negative about Charles Xavier. Writer Si Spurrier said that this comic series was going to be a, “psychedelic tale about faith, science, culture, love and law.” It would make sense that Onslaught would be part of this story. If he’s involved, it’s going to get trippy.
