Netflix has cancelled Jupiter’s Legacy but it seems that the universe will live on in an unexpected spin-off.

Jupiter’s Legacy premiered on Netflix less than a month ago but the streaming service has already pulled the plug on the TV series.

The show debuted on Friday, May 7, and generated quite a lot of buzz among comic book fans, but reception to the Image Comics-inspired series was mixed, with critics praising the performances, the effects and the action scenes but criticizing the slow-moving plot.

It stars Josh Duhamel, Ben Daniels and Leslie Bibb as the leaders of a veteran superhero family. However, their children have now chosen to carry on that legacy and it proves to be something of a struggle for the whole family. The series then follows the Union of Justice as they attempt to train the next generation of heroes to be as great as – or better than – they were.

Jupiter’s Legacy will not return for season 2 but a spin-off is coming

As revealed by TVLineJupiter’s Legacy will not be returning for a second season. However, Netflix will allow the franchise to live on in something of an unexpected twist as the streaming service has officially commissioned a villain-centric spin-off titled Supercrooks.

The spin-off will focus on “ragtag gang of super-villains, con-artists, petty thieves and leg-breakers who all band together for the heist of the century and the most outrageous crime story you’ve ever seen in your life. Crime pays and they’re going to prove it. Some people just want to have the time of their lives and make a little dirty money while they’re doing it. If the superheroes get in the way they’re going to be spitting teeth.

While there is always a chance that the stories told in Jupiter’s Legacy could be revisited in the future, the cast have already been released from their contracts. Thus, the universe of Mark Millar and Frank Quitely’s comic book series lives on without the series that brought it to screens.
