Loki finally made its presence felt on Disney Plus. But what does the ending of the series premiere really mean?

It’s the summer premiere that fans have been waiting on and now it’s finally here. Yes, Loki premiered on Disney Plus in as larger-than-life fashion as you would expect from the God of Mischief with a series premiere that really reminded viewers of just how ambitious the Marvel Cinematic Universe could be.

The character’s new adventure might just be getting started but that didn’t stop the-powers-that-be at Marvel Studios from ensuring it opened on a note that got us all talking. And that’s exactly what it did as fans are now full of excitement over the endless possibilities that the show holds.

Speaking of endless possibilities, the episode’s conclusion was one that left many fans puzzled. But what does it all mean for the show and is the titular character really the villain of his own story?

What happened in Loki episode 1?

Loki‘s premiere featured a lot of what we already saw in the trailer. The trickster’s decision to abscond with the Tesseract in Avengers: Endgame caused some chaos with the timeline and that resulted in him finding himself in the crosshairs of the Time Variance Authority.

One meeting with Mobius M. Mobius later and he essentially became a warrior for the TVA tasked with repairing the timeline and stopping a threat even more deadly than the God of Mischief himself. That threat? Well, it’s him.

So, yes, the reason that the TVA – or, more specifically, Mobius M. Mobius – has recruited Loki is apparently down to the fact that the threat they are trying to stop is actually Loki. Mobius’ revelation came right before the episode’s chilling end sequence showcased the threat in action as this apparent Loki burned agents from the TVA – the eighth attack on the organization in the last week it seems.

What does the ending of Loki episode 1 really mean?

How is Loki hunting Loki? Well, the likely theory is that the villain will turn out to be Lady Loki. In the comics, the Marvel trickster has been known to use his shape-shifting abilities to take on many forms and one of those forms included a female version of himself.

Actress Sophia DiMartino has been cast in an undisclosed role but the likely theory is that she is playing Lady Loki (as set photos reveal her in a uniform similar to that of the God of Mischief’s Avengers outfit).

It’s unknown where she comes from or what she intends to do with the timeline but if anybody can stop a threat as large as Loki, it’s, well, Loki.

Loki adds a new episode on Disney+ every Wednesday from 12:00 a.m. PT and 3:00 a.m. ET.
