Loki just revealed its true villain (and, no, it’s not who you think it is!)
Loki’s second episode just revealed the truest threat to the timeline and it’s not who we thought it would be all along.
Before it premiered, Loki looked like it had the potential to be one of Marvel Studios’ most intriguing projects. Not only did it promise to take one of the Marvel Cinematic Universe’s most beloved characters on a unique adventure, the Disney Plus show promised to explore the one facet of the MCU that largely remains a mystery: Time travel.
After introducing us to the Time Variance Authority in its premiere episode, the second installment went about educating us on the villain they are hunting. Known to be one of the many variations of Loki, this entity has been attacking and killing TVA agents and stealing their reset charges along the way. And now, after much speculation in regards to their identity, the assailant showed themselves in this week’s episode.
Who is Lady Loki?
Like many fans predicted, the Loki that the TVA is hunting is a female variation of the character. While it’s not yet known why she wants to destroy the sacred timeline, the running theory is that all of these versions of Loki and the apparent destruction of the timeline will result in the birth of the MCU’s multiverse.
However, while Lady Loki does exist in the comics (when the God of Mischief himself decides to masquerade as a female version of himself), this new character might not actually be this persona. Though we all thought Sophia Di Martino was playing Lady Loki, it turns out that this character could be someone else entirely.
One of the many end credits sequences on Episode 2 bill the character as “Sylvie”. While it’s possible that Marvel Studios have given the female Loki a name, this name in particular caught the attention of fans because, well, that’s the name of another important Marvel Comics character.
Who is Sylvie Lushton and is she coming to Loki?
Sylvie Lushton (a.k.a. Enchantress) first made her Marvel Comics debut in 2009, appearing in Dark Reign: Young Avengers No. 1. A young woman who woke up with powers one day after the Asgardians began living in Oklahoma, Sylvie eventually made her way to New York City and became a superhero, joining the Avengers.
What she didn’t realize, however, was that she was given these powers by Loki, who spoke fondly about the aspect of “creating” someone – hinting at the possibility that he literally created her.
With that in mind, could this version of the Enchantress that we see in the MCU also have been inadvertently created by Loki? Or is there something else going on here, entirely?
Loki adds a new episode on Disney+ every Wednesday from 12:00 a.m. PT and 3:00 a.m. ET.
