Dick Grayson finds out he has a sister in Nightwing No. 81. What does this mean for him and the rest of the Bat-Family.

Ever since Nightwing regained his memory during The Joker War, he’s had a lot of major changes in his life. First of all, Alfred Pennyworth left him with a billion dollars. That led him to contemplate doing more than just being a vigilante as he wants to use the money to help Blüdhaven’s homeless. Moreover, Barbara Gordon is back in his life. They still haven’t figured out what they are, but it’s something.

After all of that, Dick Grayson now has another shocking moment in his life to process: He has a sister.

In Nightwing No. 81, Dick, Barbara, and Tim Drake find out that the new Mayor, Melinda Zucco, is the daughter of crime boss Tony Zucco. Tony left her when she was eight years old. Unfortunately she was raised by the Maroni Crime Family.

After discovering this, Barbara and Tim tell Dick to rest because he has a concussion on top of a bullet wound that hasn’t healed (after he was shot by KGBeast in Batman No. 55). Instead of resting, however, Nightwing goes out. As a result, he’s quickly beaten and knocked out. When he wakes up – with his mask off – in front of Mayor Zucco, she reveals that she knows who he is.

Dick breaks out of his restraints and says that he knows that she’s the daughter of Tony Zucco. She tells him that she thought that too. However, she also reveals that her father is actually John Grayson. And that makes her Dick’s sister.

Does Dick Grayson really have a sister?

There are a few ways that this revelation could affect Dick’s life. First of all, is she really his sister? This could be her way of playing him. Melinda Zucco doesn’t seem to be all in on crime and corruption, but that could be writer Tom Taylor leading us to think that before a switch-up. If she’s really evil, Melinda could use this information to blackmail him.

Does this mean that Dick’s father cheated on his wife? Dick thought the world of his parents. How will this revelation shake up his world?

Furthermore, her knowing who he is puts the rest of the Bat-Family in jeopardy. If she puts the puzzle together, she’ll know that Bruce Wayne is Batman and that could lead to her figuring out the identities of everyone else. Or, maybe she’s lying? This could be a ploy to keep him off his game.

This new information will impact both Nightwing and Dick Grayon’s life. We don’t know what’s going to happen with this storyline or when the climax will occur. The next issue could have her being killed, being in the mobs pocket, or perhaps she could become a new ally for Nightwing. Regardless, the result will have ripples that will undoubtedly affect the entire Bat-Family.
