The Joker is coming to Titans season 3 and his official debut will send shivers down your spine.

Titans season 3 is undoubtedly one of this year’s most anticipated returning TV shows. The former DC Universe series has been off screens since late 2019 when its second season concluded so it’s safe to say that fans are hungry for more of DC’s young superheroes.

A notoriously dark retelling of the notoriously light-hearted heroes, Titans doesn’t shy away from the grim aspects of DC Comics. It appears that the upcoming third season plans on showcasing that more than ever.

While Jason Todd’s impending evolution from Robin to Red Hood has been known for the better part of a year, it wasn’t clear how the series was going to adapt it. From the new footage unveiled in the Titans season 3 trailer, it seems a direct adaptation is coming.

The first trailer for Titans season 3 has been released. Though only a short teaser trailer, it instantly got fans of the show talking. From the returns of their favorite characters to the stunning Gotham City visuals, there is already a lot to love about the presentation of Titans‘ third season.

The teaser opens with a clip that sees Curran Walters return as Jason Todd/Robin – who enters a run-down carnival at night to find a dead security guard wearing a grin that comic book fans can only associate with The Joker. After that comes the laughter.

While the teaser cuts away, seemingly ending that thread, it does feature another brief shot of a figure standing over Robin, beating him with a crowbar. It’s a blink-and-you’ll-miss-it moment but it’s one capable of chilling every viewer, especially those who know that The Joker notoriously beat Jason Todd to death with a crowbar in the 1988 Batman: A Death in the Family arc – killing him off before his eventual return as Red Hood.

There had been rumors of The Joker’s involvement for some time but it’s still unknown as to whether he will be appearing beyond this cameo recreation of that infamous DC Comics moment.

Titans season 3 premieres on HBO Max on Thursday, August 12, with its first three episodes.
