She-Hulk: Why Jameela Jamil is the perfect choice for Titania
By Mark Lynch
Jameela Jamil is an interesting pick for Titania in She-Hulk, but it will work out smashingly.
Marvel Studios has been on a roll with their Disney Plus content. WandaVision and The Falcon and the Winter Soldier have both been smash hits and, after only a couple of episodes, it looks like Loki is on it’s way to making it three for three for the studio. The programs’ success makes the idea of future shows even more exciting.
On that note, it was recently confirmed that Jameela Jamil will be joining the cast of the upcoming Marvel Cinematic Universe series She-Hulk as Titania. To some, this seemed like a strange pick, but it’s one that this writer is loving.
This wouldn’t be the first time that we’ve gotten unusual casting for comic book roles. Heath Ledger, Michael Keaton and Paul Rudd were all castings that were questioned by superhero and comic book fans. They’re also examples of how they’ve proved the doubters wrong as their respective performances as The Joker, Batman and Ant-Man are among the all-time greats. Jameela Jamil’s casting is going to be another example of how thinking outside of the box can result in hitting a home run.
Jameela Jamil may be best known as playing Tahani Al-Jamil on the hit sitcom The Good Place. The funny part is the character is nothing like her. Her character may be a little arrogant, braggadocious and feels the need to only walk in high society but Jamil is a humble, mental health and LGBTQ+ advocate who speaks up for women’s rights and empowerment. All of which she’ll bring to She-Hulk on two different levels.
Why Jameela Jamil is perfect for Titania on She-Hulk
Jennifer Walters is an incredibly intelligent woman. She’ll need an adversary who’s going to match her in more than just strength. They have to challenge her when she speaks; someone who won’t back down from a debate and look powerful while doing it. Jamil certainly has a presence when she speaks and she’s not going to look weak confronting anyone. And she’s 5’11”. She’s going to be strong in character and stand tall as well. It’s going to be fantastic when She-Hulk and Titania are fighting physically and with their words.

Marvel has done a fantastic job with making sure people are represented properly. Jameela Jamil will help continue this trend, making sure that Titania isn’t just a villain with super strength. She’ll make certain that there’s depth to her as well. The Falcon and the Winter Soldier would have been just another show without the social commentary that it inspired – and its antagonist raised a lot of thought-provoking conversations. No doubt we could see Titania presented just as strong – and Jamil will no have no problem bringing a deeper version of the character to life.
Lastly, you can rest assured that Jamil won’t shy away from using this platform to highlight important issues. Brie Larson did the same thing during her Captain Marvel press run. A Marvel platform comes with more eyes and ears, making it a perfect place for her to raise awareness on issues such as tolerance, women’s empowerment and mental health issues.
Jamil may be playing a villain in She-Hulk but she’s a hero in real life; ironically, that makes her an inspired choice for the role.
