2. A true Asgardian

In most realities, Loki is the son of the Frost Giants. He is cast away for being small and Odin brings him in and raises him as an Asgardian. It’s a common history, but not the only one. There has to be a reality where he is really Odin’s son, right?

Knowing Odin, he probably still treated his child harshly in this potential universe. After who knows how long of having to withstand that torment, this could lead to a change in this Loki’s plans. Instead of one day becoming Asgard’s protector or ruler, they would become the multiverse’s reckoning. Could that be who this Variant has become?

1. Thorsdóttir

The rivalry between Thor and his brother goes beyond the regular comic book continuity. In Thor & Loki: Blood Brothers, we see that Loki’s need to take over Asgard is built into his DNA. They’re also predestined to lose every time. Thor’s brother could have died in his reality during one of their many scuffles and, in order to pay homage to his brother, he may have named his child after him.

That name could have been all the universe needs to turn the Variant evil. It could also explain the blond hair. Imagine being predestined to hate your father. Or perhaps being called Loki makes people hate you. That’s enough to drive anyone mad. The question is: Is that the driving force behind this Loki‘s actions?
