Is Glass bad?

When it comes to superhero movies, sometimes sequels simply don’t live up to their predecessors, and with Glass from M. Night Shyamalan, that is exactly what happens. While I enjoyed Unbreakable (see next slide), and even the follow-up, the third movie in the series is less of a superhero movie to watch and more of a yikes.

It is almost like the director got bored with his own story and just lost his passion for the project. And if that isn’t enough to convince you to walk away from this one, then maybe the fact that you absolutely have to see the previous two movies to have even a passing understanding of what is happening will.

While interconnected superhero movies can be a lot of fun, when it feels like you need notes to follow along, the movie loses its appeal. And with Glass, it feels like you need a Cliff Notes telling of what we need to know to even appreciate the storyline.

The worst part of this superhero slog is the fact that our characters have no room to grow because they have already done all they can to be fully formed characters in their previous outings. The premise is promising, but in the execution that is where everything just fell flat. And that’s a shame because there was so much potential to this story and it was clearly wasted.

In the long run, this movie can be missed with ease and you won’t even care. Honestly, it is a tragedy that is hard to ignore when you consider the caliber of talent in this movie.

Verdict: Skip
