Is Deadpool worth watching?
If you love quirky movies and want your superhero fix, then Deadpool is the answer. Not only do we get Ryan Reynolds in a role he fought hard for, but also in one he clearly enjoys every bit of. And it shows! Seriously, even breaking the fourth wall is further proof of how much Reynolds enjoys this character and this movie. And you can’t deny that having the star of the movie enjoy the project is something that we can all get behind.
While it could be argued that Deadpool is more of an antihero than a superhero, he is in fact heroic. He saves the day even when it might get in the way of his own plans, and he probably keeps a tally of his good deeds somewhere. And while his methods might be a little less pure and good than other heroes, he doesn’t shy away from who he is and what he is doing.
As far as superhero movies go, the fun part of Deadpool is the fact that while he is the main man, he isn’t alone. Instead, he has enough help that it is clear that whether you considered him a superhero or not, he is at the very least a part of a supergroup. (It’s good to be associated with the X-Men in some ways.)
An added bonus of Deadpool is the fact that both movies are actually quite brilliant and leave you satisfied. If we could just get that third movie and maybe even the X-Force movies, then it would be the icing on the cake of the brilliance that is Deadpool and his ridiculousness.
Verdict: Watch
