Is Birds of Prey good?

One of the best things to come out of the Suicide Squad movie has to be Margot Robbie’s Harley Quinn. So when we learned that she was getting her own movie, it was beyond exciting.

While the name changed a few times, in the end, we ended up with Birds of Prey (and the Fantabulous Emancipation of One Harley Quinn) – or Birds of Prey for short!

Much like Deadpool, Harley Quinn is more of an antihero than a superhero, and yet alongside characters such as Black Canary and The Huntress, she shines in a more heroic role. While she has her moments, it is clear that Harley Quinn is willing to save others when it comes right down to it.

She might have fallen in with a bad crowd (mainly the Joker), but that doesn’t mean she is a bad person. And in Birds of Prey, we really get a chance to see this character shine on her own. She doesn’t need a man to tell her who she is and when it comes to being heroic, it’s like she has it all figured out, even when it means that she doesn’t get what she wants.

While she may not be the quintessential superhero, she makes it work in a way that breaks the mold of what we expect from superhero movies. And that is worth everything because this is fresh and new in a way that we can all appreciate after a glut of superhero movies that sometimes feel like they have a checklist they have to follow.

Harley Quinn is brilliant and this movie lets her shine! Now we just need more of her and the rest of the Birds of Prey.

Verdict: Watch
