Is Catwoman starring Halle Berry bad?

When it comes to superhero movies we should avoid, Catwoman has to be near the top of the list. While this movie featured the talents of people such as Halle Berry, Sharon Stone, Frances Conroy, and Benjamin Bratt, it feels like the filmmakers completely wasted these actors.

Instead of a movie where we really get to know Catwoman/Selina Kyle, it feels like they pulled a random story out of the air instead of looking to the comics and the previous iterations of Catwoman (not just Selina Kyle’s Catwoman, but also Irena Dubrovna or Selina Wayne).

But really, that’s not why I am saying don’t watch this movie. The reality is that this film doesn’t add anything to the genre and instead it feels like it detracts from it. There is nothing about this film that screams watch me.

There was very little real plot to the film and even the general storyline was lacking. This was a movie about special effects and the effects don’t even hold up over the long haul.

It’s sad because there was a lot of promise to the movie, but it was wasted and it feels like this was a missed opportunity to really dive into who Catwoman is, what her motivations are, and why she is both a hero and villain. She is less superhero and more lady with a cat obsession in this outing and that is pretty sad.

Verdict: Skip
