Is Wonder Woman 1984 bad?

While Wonder Woman was a brilliant look at Diana Prince as a superhero, in her second solo outing, Wonder Woman 1984, things are not quite as fabulous. Maybe it is because we had such high hopes for it or because of how great the first movie was, but this sequel doesn’t live up to its potential.

And when it comes to superhero movies, the last thing we want is to be disappointed. There are some critical flaws to Wonder Woman 1984 that make it a movie I don’t recommend. Not only is there the fact that for all the hype about Wonder Woman being a superhero and yet the heroics are few and far between in this movie, but how about the thin plot that actually allowed for the return of Chris Pine’s Steve Trevor.

As much as we loved Steve in the first Wonder Woman and we even appreciate him in this movie, it really doesn’t feel like he was at all necessary. And the fact that he helps distract from the actual villain of it all doesn’t help matters.

From the seriousness of the first film to whatever it is they decided to go with in Wonder Woman 1984, it just doesn’t work the way we want it to. And it certainly doesn’t help that the movie feels unnecessarily long. It’s almost like they had too much time to work with and not enough story to make it count. And that is a shame because Diana Prince deserved so much better in her second solo movie.
