5. The Opening Sequence

After the ending of the first episode, it was evident that “The Variant” would have to follow up strongly. The opening sequence proved that the show was willing to take us for a wild ride throughout the next hour, as another bunch of unsuspecting TVA agents were taken down by The Variant – who manages to turn them against each other.

The scene itself is full of action but it also features some horror elements, as The Variant enchants one of the TVA agents and uses her to take out her comrades, all while the electrifying action sequence is accompanied by the classic Bonnie Tyler song “Holding Out For A Hero”

The soundtrack choice along with the electrifying sequence further set the stakes high as well as the tone of the episode, showcasing a mixture of comedy and violence. It also establishes The Variant as a real threat, while giving fans a lot to look forward to for the next hour of the series.

The song is likely to bring back lovely nostalgia for fans of Shrek 2, one of the greatest animated movies of all time. Not sure if that is what the sequence was going for, but it definitely works in its favour.
