With vintage art from the Marvel vaults and profiles of the creators behind the icon, this special tribute presents a unique guide to one of Marvel’s most enduring heroes."
Now, all Cap fans will know that Steve Rogers has quite the extensive history to cover, but we can give you a little sneak peek at part of that history.
Thanks to Titan Publishing, we can release some exclusive spreads from the must-have Captain America collection, showcasing one of the many decades of adventures it will cover.
These particular spreads chronicle his journey through the 1980s, spotlighting stories involving the character as well as some behind-the-scenes tidbits.
Starting with snippets from Captain America Vol. 1 No. 350 in which Cap went toe-to-toe with John Walker a.k.a. U.S. Agent (a character who was introduced in the ’80s and rose to prominence because of how different he was compared to Rogers), the book discusses how the legendary Mark Gruenwald’s run with the character saw him and Walker clash over who wields the shield.
Speaking of Gruenwald, the collection also takes a moment to honor the late, great writer, who was an influential voice in the comic world throughout his life and his tenure as Marvel’s Executive Editor.
Gruenwald was responsible for some of Cap’s biggest stories in the ’80s and co-created John Walker, so it’s only fitting that he’s honored with a tribute documenting his passion for the comic book genre and detailing his rise through the industry.
The final spread discusses some of the major crossovers that Cap was involved in during the 1980s, highlighting how it was a pivotal decade for not just the Star-Spangled Man but the entire Marvel Universe, as sagas like Secret Wars, The Evolutionary War and Acts of Vengeance sent shockwaves through the universe and introduced new forms of crossover structure still in use in comics today.
Each one of these spreads also feature a timeline at the bottom, chronologically showcasing some of the most important titles involving Captain America in the ’80s.
That’s just a preview of the character’s incredible history and you can catch up on every decade in Cap’s story by picking up a copy of this amazing collection this summer.
Captain America: The First 80 Years is available in hardcover, newsstand softcover, comic store exclusive softcover and it is on sale from July 13, 2021.
