Superman and Lois director is set to helm the first two of the Green Lantern HBO Max series.

Film and TV screenwriter/director Lee Toland Krieger will be directing the first two episodes of Green Lantern’s upcoming HBO Max series.

The series will feature multiple different Green Lanterns as the story is told across decades and galaxies with the likes of Guy Gardner (Finn Wittrock), Alan Scott (Jeremy Irvine) and the half-alien Bree Jarta just to name a few. Other known GLs that are expected to appear in the series are Jessica Cruz and Simon Baz.

Casting is underway for the upcoming show, with Wittrock and Irvine being relatively recent additions. Meanwhile, rumors now suggest that famed Lantern villain Sinestro will also be making his presence felt in the series.

Lee Toland Kreiger to direct the first two episodes of Green Lantern

The HBO Max series will be Krieger’s first project under the WarnerMedia streamer but it won’t be the first time he directs two episodes of a new DC Comics TV series as he notably directed the first two installments of the widely successful Superman & Lois.

He also directed multiple episodes of fellow CW series Riverdale (including its first and last season 1 episodes). Most recently, he directed the first and second installments of Netflix’s Shadow and Bone.

It will be interesting to see how Krieger will handle the ambitious, interstellar and expansive sci-fi series centered on galactic patrolmen but it’s clear that he’s more than capable of bringing it to life.

HBO Max’s original series is being written by Greg Berlanti, Marc Guggenheim and Seth Grahame-Smith. Berlanti, Guggenheim, Grahame-Smith, Geoff Johns, Sarah Schechter, David Madden and David Katzenberg are credited as executive producers. Elizabeth Hunter and Sara Saedi are co-executive producers.

Berlanti Productions is producing the series in association with Warner Bros. Television. No release date has been confirmed as of yet and is expected to land on HBO Max in the near-future.
