Loki episode 6 ending and post-credit scene explained: What happened to [SPOILER]?
Loki has officially completed its run but what does the ending of the episode and the post-credit sequence really mean?
Loki has compelled and thrilled Marvel Cinematic Universe fans over the past five weeks. The series made its debut on Disney Plus, being the first to do so in the service’s new trend towards middle-of-the-week releases and it was a massive success.
The show centers on the MCU’s beloved God of Mischief and sees Tom Hiddleston reprise the role from the shared universe’s movie installments. This Loki, however, isn’t the one that we have gotten to know over the past decade. Instead, it’s the villainous 2012 version that we once again saw in Avengers: Endgame that accidentally popped into the timeline when he absconded with the Tesseract.
Throughout the whole season, Loki tried to prove to his own variants that the Time Variance Authority weren’t the great protectors of time that they claimed to be. With the help of Sylvie, he did just that. And the finale saw them get up close and personal with the individual in charge of the corrupt time organization.
What does the end of Loki’s season 1 finale really mean?
Loki‘s season 1 finale saw him and Sylvie approach Kang the Conqueror as he revealed himself to be the entity behind the Time Variance Authority. However, he also revealed that he was the lesser of infinite evils and that he was only remaining in charge of the organization because, without it, time would collapse in on itself and create the multiverse – which would be full of evil versions of Kang ready to rule and conquer.
Well, in spite of acknowledging her connection with Loki, Sylvie wanted to exact revenge on the man who controlled her fate and plunged a blade into Kang’s chest, refusing his offer to oversee the timeline and protect it from the multiverse. And, as soon as she did, the TVA registered a horde of branching timelines.
When Loki returned to explain what happened, however, he discovered that Mobius and Hunter B-15 did not recognize him. And when he looked around the TVA, he was met with a huge statue of Kang in place of where the Time-Keepers once stood.
What does it all mean? Well, Sylvie’s actions have resulted in exactly what Kang foresaw, with her decision to kill him resulting in the beginning of the multiverse. And the birth of that multiverse has essentially created new timelines – new timelines that new versions of Kang will oversee. That would explain why there is a statue of the conqueror in the TVA and why neither Mobius nor Hunter B-12 recognize Loki.
Moreover, this ultimately sets the stage for Ant-Man and the Wasp: Quantumania, Spider-Man: No Way Home and Doctor Strange in the Multiverse of Madness – all of which are expected to deal with either Kang or the multiverse in some capacity.
What does the post-credit scene mean on Loki?
There isn’t a full post-credit scene in Loki‘s season 1 finale, but there is a mid-credit scene and it’s meaning is simple: Loki will return for a second season.
We don’t know when and we don’t know how, but the God of Mischief will be back, hoping to clear up the timey wimey mess that the encounter between Sylvie and Kang has created.
All six episodes of Loki season 1 are now available to watch on Disney+.
