Loki season 2: Premiere, release date, cast, trailer and more
Loki’s six-episode run has concluded but when can fans expect the second season to arrive?
The third Marvel Cinematic Universe series made its presence felt on Disney Plus last month. Just as WandaVision placed the spotlight on Wanda and Vision and The Falcon and the Winter Soldier allowed us to catch up with Sam and Bucky, Loki put everyone’s favorite trickster center stage and, as expected, Tom Hiddleston shone.
Focusing on the version of the character that didn’t undergo his MCU redemption, the post-Avengers Loki found himself at the mercy of the Time Variance Authority when all he really wanted to do was exact revenge on those who he believed wronged him and make himself the king of some other reality. But he was forced to undertake another redemption arc when he saw his own future and soon figured out that the TVA weren’t the great protectors they claimed to be. Having exposed that, will there be a second season to explore that further?
Below, you’ll find all the up-to-date information you need about Loki season 2, its premiere on Disney+, its cast, any trailers and more.
Is there going to be a Loki season 2?
Marvel Studios has officially confirmed that Loki will return for a second season, using the finale as a basis to confirm that.
Before that, it was unclear but there was a lot of evidence to suggest that it would be back. In an interview with Variety last year, Agents of SHIELD star Clark Gregg suggested that Tom Hiddleston would be filming “10 or 12 episodes” of the series, implying that there would be more episodes to come after the first season’s six.
Moreover, when announcing the new deal that Loki‘s head writer Michael Waldron had signed with Disney (which would involve him writing Kevin Feige’s mystery Star Wars movie), Deadline also revealed that he was expected to return for Loki‘s second season.
Loki season 2 release date
It’s hard to predict a possible release date. However, according to a recent report from Production Weekly, the show is expected to start filming season 2 in January 2022. If that’s the case, then the second season would likely hit screens sometime in the fall of 2022.
Loki season 2 cast
It’s clear that Tom Hiddleston would return in the titular role. Granted there are other Lokis but this is very much the story of Hiddleston’s God of Mischief.
With that in mind, the MCU veteran would likely be joined by Owen Wilson as Agent Mobius M. Mobius, Sophia Di Martino as Sylvie, Gugu Mbatha-Raw as Ravonna Renslayer, Wunmi Mosaku as Hunter B-15 and Tara Strong as the voice of Miss Minutes.
That being said, the second season could tackle a completely different kind of story, so we could always see a completely new supporting cast. And don’t be surprised if Jonathan Majors shows up as the mighty Kang the Conqueror.
Loki season 2 trailer
As the announcement has just been made in regards to Loki season 2, there is no trailer as of yet. This is still understandable considering production hasn’t begun yet.
If the reports about it beginning filming in January next year are true, then we should probably expect a trailer no earlier than summer 2022.
In the meantime, let’s revisit the spectacle that is the midseason trailer.
What is Loki season 2 about?
It’s not yet known what the potential second season of Loki would focus on. While the Gods of Mischief attempted to take down the Time Variance Authority in the first season, you would think that aftermath of the war with the TVA would still play into season 2.
That said, don’t be surprised if the show pulls a full reboot and takes the iconic trickster on a completely different type of journey now that time travel has finally been dealt with in the MCU.
