These comic book characters best represent the true meaning and spirit of Christmas.

What are some things that come to mind when you think of Christmas? Of course, presents is one thing. After all, the season is all about the giving; the look on people’s faces when they receive a gift is often a present in itself. But there’s so much more to Christmas than gifts. There’s family (and not just relatives), togetherness, and being grateful for everything you have.

These are also all elements and qualities that heroes should have and we see them reflected in many comic book characters.

Aunt May is one of the kindest people in the Marvel world; someone who’s opened her doors to all of Peter’s friends. She truly may be the epitome of giving. And then there’s Wonder Woman on the DC side of things. She may be a great warrior but she prefers a peaceful resolution to conflicts. Of curse, peace is one of the chief principles of Christmas.

What we have coming up are eight comic book characters that represent the Christmas spirit and a comic book project to check out to see why it’s true.

Alfred Pennyworth

Alfred Pennyworth just might be the nicest person on this list. He goes above and beyond for his family. And not just in maintaining Wayne Manor and helping the Bat-Family run their crimefighting operation, he raised a house full of boys and turned them into men. There is no way that Bruce Wayne, Dick Grayson, Tim Drake or Jason Todd would be the men – and heroes – that they are without him in their lives. Even Damian Wayne is less snarky towards him.

After he died, Alfred left Dick with a billion dollars. One more gift for him and the world after he was gone.
