8 comic book characters that best represent the Christmas spirit
By Mark Lynch
Luke Cage
Luke Cage is a man of the people. He always has been, even when he was an Avenger. The first thing he told Captain America when he accepted his offer to join the team was that he wanted to try to do things differently. He meant that he wanted to do more than fight aliens; Luke wanted to be a presence to communities in New York – the places where people felt like no one cared, He wanted to remind them that he does care.
This way of thinking happened way before he was an Avenger. When Luke and Iron Fist ran Heroes for Hire, they almost never accepted money. To them it seemed wrong. Now, when someone with big time money came in, they’d charge them. Otherwise, they did the work for free. It’s one of the reasons people love them.

Wolverine
Logan is an angry, feral, and stubborn mutant-killing machine with a heart of gold. No matter how much he snarls and curses, he cares. When he saw that the young mutants on Utopia were looked at as soldiers, he offered them another alternative; he opened up a school where they could get an education, learn how to use their powers, and be kids at the same time.
Logan wasn’t naïve. He knew that the school and the students were still in danger. The difference is that they wouldn’t be asked to fight and ultimately robbed of their childhood. He spent every last dollar he had to build the Jean Grey School of Higher Learning. Who knew that Logan had enough money to build an entire campus?
