8 comic book characters that best represent the Christmas spirit
By Mark Lynch
Superman
Superman is the benchmark of superheroes doing good. He’s held on a standard that’s almost impossible to live up to. Critics will say that he’s too good – which is a weird comment considering he’s supposed to be good. The truth is that, without Superman, comic book heroes wouldn’t have something to aspire to.
Superman has been the personification of good and true for decades. For this writer, his best moment was him doing a lot of good on a little walk. During this walk, he helped someone with their car, told someone to get their heart looked at, stopped drug dealers and prevented someone from killing themselves. The best part is these are things he does every day. He’ll stop to fix a bike, get a cat out of a tree, or wave to someone who needs a friendly face.
Superman is kind to everyone he comes across. He takes no pleasure in beating people up. If he did, crime would be abolished in a week because he could punch a hole through Lex Luthor or throw random criminals into the sun. Instead, he holds back and he tries his best to do things the hard way.
His kindness, giving, and empathy make him the perfect comic book character to represent the Christmas spirit and it’s easy to see why the Man of Steel remains such a timeless character.
