James Gunn pitched an epic crossover to Marvel and DC Comics

James Gunn has made a bombshell reveal that he pitched a crossover involving two popular characters to both Marvel and DC
Superheroes are currently one of the most popular commodities in the film industry, with both Marvel and DC Comics having a slate of big blockbusters due to release in the next few years.
James Gunn is one of the only directors to work on blockbusters in both the MCU and DCEU lately, with the director having two Guardians of the Galaxy movies under his belt and the upcoming The Suicide Squad film.
Gunn has been using his influence in both companies to try and convince them to create a crossover film, something that fans of both Marvel and DC have always dreamed of.
James Gunn Marvel and DC crossover pitch
In an interview with Jake’s Takes, Gunn mentioned he would love to do a crossover film featuring both Harley Quinn (Margot Robbie) and Groot (Vin Diesel), two of the most popular characters in their respective franchises.
While it may seem impossible to see a project ever take shape featuring both Marvel and DC characters, Gunn mentioned that the heads of both companies are surprisingly open to the idea:
"“I’ve actually talked about that to the heads of both Marvel and DC, but, you know, it’s like, they — you know, everybody’s open to everything, but whether anything would ever happen, who knows? But the idea of being able to bring Marvel and DC together in a movie is, that would be really fun for me.”"
Gunn would certainly be the man for the job, having worked with both Marvel and DC characters and knowing the franchises well. While both companies may be open and excited about the prospect of teaming up, there would obviously be a lot of legality surrounding a potential crossover. This would make it difficult for a crossover to occur, however not impossible.
In the meantime, both Marvel and DC have some big blockbusters on the way. The next instalment in the DCEU will be Gunn’s The Suicide Squad on August 6, while Black Widow is currently out now in theatres and on Disney Plus through Premier Access.
