Why Will Smith is not in The Suicide Squad
By Liam Clark
Will Smith’s Deadshot was one of the best parts of the original film Suicide Squad, so why is he not returning here?
With the incoming release of James Gunn’s (Guardians of the Galaxy) take on the Suicide Squad, fans are understandably hyped.
The trailers for the film have showcased that the film is set to be a dark comedy that introduces a number of new characters, played by actors such as John Cena and Idris Elba while bringing back some characters from the first film.
Harley Quinn (Margot Robbie), Amanda Waller (Viola Davis), Captain Boomerang (Jai Courtney) and Rick Flag (Joel Kinnaman) are all returning for the sequel, which has left fans wondering why Will Smith’s Deadshot is not appearing in the sequel.
Why is Will Smith not in James Gunn’s Suicide Squad?
Smith’s portrayal of the mercenary was one of the most praised parts of the film, which was universally panned by critics and fans alike. However, while many thought Idris Elba was originally cast to replace Smith, it turns out Will Smith could not appear in the sequel due to scheduling conflicts during the time of filming.
Idris Elba will be playing the Superman villain Bloodsport in the film, leaving the door open for Will Smith to return in the future as Deadshot if the DCEU decides to head in that direction.
The Suicide Squad is set to hit theaters and HBO Max on Aug. 6 and will feature an A-list cast including Margot Robbie, John Cena, Idris Elba, Taika Watiti and Sylvester Stallone.
